Since its first appearance more than two decades ago, AIDS has been spreading fast and affecting each and every part of the world.  China stands on the brink of an explosive HIV/AIDS epidemic. Without immediate action, UNAIDS estimates that 20 million Chinese could be HIV-infected by 2010.

CAI, created in November 2003, is dedicated to helping China accelerate its response to HIV/AIDS.  The Hong Kong Committee for CAI was formed by CAI and the Hong Kong AIDS Foundation, with Dr. David Ho, a distinguished scientist on HIV/AIDS, and Dr. C.H. Leong, Chairman of the Hong Kong AIDS Foundation, as Co-chairmen.

To help fight the AIDS epidemic, the Hong Kong Committee for CAI started last year to raise funds in Hong Kong and succeeded in raising more than HK$10 million to support various HIV/AIDS projects on education, publicity, treatment, research studies and service provision in the mainland.   

This year we are honoured and very glad to have Mr. Yao Ming, the basketball star, coming to Hong Kong to help promote HIV prevention.  Mr. Yao who has been very supportive of the AIDS cause, has consented to attend the CommitteeÅfs fundraising gala dinner to be held at Grand Hyatt on 21st September.  The programme for the gala dinner will include a pre-dinner reception, auction of items, performance, screening of a short documentary on HIV/AIDS and filming by TVB for showing on air at a later time.  

Your company has /you have all along been showing great care for the well-being of the community and we now appeal to your support of this meaningful event, with details in Appendix 1 enclosed.  Your support will certainly make the fight against AIDS a less daunting one.
